Hi.  I have an iPhone Model 7, with IOS 15.7.1 which, apparently, means that WiFi calling is supported on my device.

I’m located in Montreal, Canada.

If:

  1. I go to Mexico on vacation
  2. I have a good WiFi connection there
  3. I turn “Cellular Data” OFF
  4. I activate WiFi calling

does it mean I can make phone calls, using the “Phone” app?

If I make calls to a Montreal, Canada phone number, do I have to pay anything?

If I make calls to a Mexico phone number (local calls in Mexico, not long distance calls within Mexico) do I pay anything?

If someone in Montreal calls my Koodo phone number, will my iPhone ring?  If so, will it ring with the “Phone” app?  Will I be charged for this?  Will my caller have to pay anything???

Thanks!

Edit at 18h28:  While in Mexico, can I call my Koodo voicemail and take my messages?  Would that cost me anything?

Merci Dinh for your comments.

But can anyone answer my questions specifically?

Thanks.

I’m not sure what Dinh missed? You make calls with the regular app. It works as normal, so making calls to toher Canadian numbers is the same as whatever your plan says. Calls to Mexican numbers in Mexico are the same roaming as anywhere. It’ll ring the same as otherwise. You again only get charged the same as your plan says. It changes nothing for charges. Your call will pay if they are calling in a way that costs money to call a Canadian number. Calling voicemail is the same as always, which costs you money as if you’re roaming. It’s all exactly the same.

The difference is related to signal strength. It allows you to connect and place calls where cellular strength may not be enough to connect. That’s the only difference.
